There Are Several Courses Listed. Which One Should I Take?
LISRA Offers the following courses several times each year:
1. USSF Entry Level (USSF Grade 8) Referee Course
This course requires 18 hours of training and a written test that must be passed at the conclusion.
Successful completion of this course earns the student their USSF Grade 8 Referee rating and qualifies
the student to officiate IN THE CENTER. The course is usually offered in 3 hour classroom sessions over
6 nights and is offered several times each year. You must be a minimum of 16 years old to take this
course. THIS IS NOT THE COURSE FOR NEW ASSISTANT REFEREES.
2. USSF Recreational Referee (USSF Grade 9) Course
This course requires 8 hours of classroom training and a written test that must be passed at the conclusion.
Successful completion of this course earns the student their USSF Grade 9 Referee rating and qualifies
the student to officiate LONG ISLAND JUNIOR SOCCER LEAGUE games as an ASSISTANT REFEREE for U15,
U16, U17 and U19 age group games. You also qualify to officiate, WITH EXPERIENCE and EXPRESS PERMISSION
of LISRA's USSF Assignors, U10 and U11 games in the CENTER. This course is offered several times each year
and may be offered in a 3 night, 3 hour per night format or in a 2 day, 1/2 day each day format.
THIS IS THE COURSE FOR NEW ASSISTANT REFEREES.
3. BRIDGE Course -- USSF Grade 9 to USSF Grade 8
This course is ONLY FOR EXPERIENCED ASSISTANT REFEREES (currently holding their USSF Grade 9 rating)
who WISH TO OFFICIATE IN THE CENTER by upgrading to the USSF Grade 8 rating. It requires 8 hours of
classroom training and a written test that must be passed at the conclusion. You may still serve as an
Assistant Referee afterwards and now qualify for Premier and State Cup AR assignments (which you MAY
NOT do as a USSF Grade 9 Official), HOWEVER, you are also EXPECTED to officiate in the CENTER for younger
age group games. THIS IS NOT THE COURSE FOR NEW ASSISTANT REFEREES.
Please note that ALL USSF Certifications are NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED.
LISRA has MANY college age member officials who have come up through the G9 Program
and have gone on, via the Bridge Course, to earn their USSF Grade 8 rating and now officiate
in their local college area, remaining involved in the game, continuing their development as
soccer officials and earning additional money while away at school. LISRA can assist you in
this effort when and if applicable...just ask us!
